Wastage of food is always a sad thing to see, for keep hearing instances of people around the world struggling for food or all the things that we keep hearing about children suffering from malnutrion, etc. In this context it is indeed heartening to note that there are people in this world who are working towards ensuring the stoppage of this kind of wastage. Yes, today as part of our Coimbatore Salutes series we are looking at a young social entrepreneur Padmanaban Gopalan from Coimbatore.
‘No Food Waste’ initiative
The very mention of Padmanaban Gopalan’s name has become synonymous with his ‘No Food Waste’ initiative. Born in Salem on 13th April, 1993, Padmanaban Gopalan completed his schooling in the same city before completing his graduation in engineering from the prestigious Government College of Technology, Coimbatore. As the founder of No Food Waste, a volunteer based platform that collects excess food and distributes it among the needy, he continues to be a source of inspiration. This young entrepreneur has graduated and emerged from the city of Coimbatore.
Inspiring work in the areas of waste management
His work has won him national, as well as international recognition. He has won the Chief Minister State Youth Award in 2017. He has also won the Commonwealth Youth Award in 2019 and the International Visionary Award in 2015 from the Pollination Project of California. This social entrepreneur continues to do inspiring work in the areas of waste management, feeding the needy and sanitation in urban areas.
